What we believe
This section provides an overview of what the Lilydale Baptist Church believes.
LBC believes in the existence of One God in Three Persons – The Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
- As Father: Not only because He is creator and sustainer of all of creation, but as believers we are the children of our heavenly Father (Rom 8:15), and therefore members of his family.
- As The Son, Jesus Christ: We believe in His deity and incarnation, obtaining our salvation from sin by His atoning death and victorious resurrection and ascension to God’s right hand and His unchanging Priesthood.
- As Holy Spirit: For His work of regeneration, sanctification and preservation of believers.
- The Bible
LBC recognizes the Bible as the divine inspiration and the supreme authority of both the Old and New Testaments. The Bible is paramount in the preaching and teaching in our formal and informal programs.
LBC believes in Baptism as being the immersion of believers upon the profession of their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, which symbolically represents the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- Church Membership
The membership of the church consists of people who are personally committed to Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, mutually committed to each other and actively involved in the mission of the church. They shall have testified to this commitment.
The membership the church also consists of people who have recognized profession of faith in other Christian traditions.
- The Lord’s Supper
LBC believes the Lord’s Supper is a memorial of the sacrifice of the body and blood of the Lord Jesus Christ until He comes again.
- Marriage and the Church
The Baptist Union of Australia defines marriage as being the union between a man and a woman to the exclusion of all others, voluntarily entered into for life. For further information, visit www.baptist.org.au online via your Web Browser. This definition has been accepted by the Lilydale Baptist Church Leadership Team and has been confirmed by a congregational meeting.
- The Human Condition
LBC believes that without the death of the Lord Jesus Christ and His assurance of salvation for those who believe, the rest of mankind remains in a sinful and lost state with the inevitable consequence of God’s judgment.
- The Church in Today’s Society
The church is understood to be the body of Christ, consisting of people who have responded to the call of the Holy Spirit and to the Word of God and therefore united with Jesus Christ and other Christians upon their personal confession of faith. The Church is God’s People in the world.
Purpose: Members pledge themselves to discipleship and service in the Kingdom of God.
Place and Mission: We accept the commission to actively participate in Christ’s ministry to all, (both locally and overseas) to proclaim and live out the gospel message of reconciliation to God, to one another and peoples of all nations.
